Recently, T-mobile has been adding customers at a faster pace compared to Verizon and AT&T. (1) Why?
Their value provided to the US consumer is undeniably much better compared to other providers. I switched to T-mobile two years ago because Sprint service was quite unsatisfactory for me. Once I switched, I was surprised how much better service and added benefits T-mobile provided to me at a slightly more expensive cost. When I switched, I was still using an outdated router in my primary residence and T-mobile was/has been making a big push for Wi-Fi calling in places where cellular towers don't provide coverage availability. They provide a Wi-Fi Cellspot router with a $25 deposit. This router must be returned if you cancel service with them. (2) This will provide great coverage in your home with Wi-Fi calling if you don't live next to a cell phone tower. If you travel quite frequently out of the US, T-mobile makes perfect sense because free text and basic internet is provided in 140+ countries. Many other cell phone providers don't give this to you for free and charge when you travel abroad. Thus with T-mobile, one can use their phone internationally without any charges or additional fees. If you use Whatsapp or other apps that allow phone calls through the internet, you can even call for free. I've used it for a week in a developed Asian country and had no issues using the internet there for google maps, text, and Whatsapp calling. My experience in a developing Latin America country was that it was sufficient for texting, but I wasn't able to use much internet since speeds were too slow. It was definitely great and convenient. If I hadn't switched, I would have had to go to a local shop to buy a pre-paid sim card and service. I was able to use my phone immediately after I landed at the airport without the hassle. The only downside with T-mobile is that you have to bring your old device, if it is compatible, or purchase a cell phone outright. Cell phone subsidies aren't provided by T-mobile if you sign a 2-year contract like other carriers. However, one can always sign up for a device payment plan like all the other carriers. Also, I've heard that T-mobile doesn't have great reception in rural areas, so if you do live or go to such places frequently, you may consider staying with AT&T or Verizon. As always, you should always ask around where you live. If many of your friends are satisfied with T-mobile in your area, it is a good choice. Here's a breakdown of what is currently available from T-mobile's unlimited plan. These prices are available when you have your checking account automatically billed monthly. 1 line = $70 2 lines = $100 3 lines = $140 4 lines = $160 These include all taxes and fees. If you prefer to set-up service with T-Mobile directly call 1-877-989-6097. I do get a small affiliate commission if you call with this number, but I highly recommend T-Mobile if you are unsatisfied with your current cell phone provider. Until 5/21/17, if you buy a Samsung Galaxy S8, you will get another one free with 2 new lines of T-mobile's unlimited data. I know 3 people with this phone, and they all like it. They are all Google Android users though. Of course, if you're using an Apple iOS device, you may want to wait and see if there will be any future promotions with the unreleased Iphone 8. 1. www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-04-24/t-mobile-exceeds-subscriber-estimates-winning-verizon-defectors 2, https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-24795
