It's very frustrating to see the state of California continually raise their gas tax. Starting July 1st, 2019 state gasoline taxes are climbing by 5.6 cents per gallon. C'mon! What happened to the USA being a big time shale producer?
This just gives me further incentives to buy an electric car. Not only do California roads suck in certain areas, the state of California is likely very mis-managed. CA doesn't have the issues of water, ice, freezing temps, and other cold weather temperatures can do to asphalt roads. Not sure why its so expensive here in Cali compared to the mid-west.

With the Warriors down 3-1 to the Raptors, I did some research on Kawhi Leonard. He's a pretty humble dude and I was surprised to learn that he's a real frugal as well. He's not into the flashy stuff and still drives a '97 Tahoe as of this article from March, 2016. Panicked when he lost coupons even though he's a bonafide multi-millionaire NBA star.
https://www.si.com/nba/2016/03/15/kawhi-leonard-spurs-tim-duncan-gregg-popovich-tony-parker-manu-ginobili No wonder he's on the verge of a championship title. Leonard focuses on the game, and not on the flashy stuff that the NBA can bring. On an unrelated note, it's probably why the Lakers will never win another title, with their dysfunctional management team, James focused on making Space Jam 2 and his TV show, The Shop, and getting all caught up in the LA lifestyle. He's the king who's lost to the up and comers. Kawhi, seems like a grounded dude who's fiscally responsible and set to improve any team that he goes to next. Hopefully KD is back for Game 5, otherwise it's lights out Golden State! I had an interesting conversation recently when I explained that my workplace offered fitness classes with showers and the conversation was steered about saving money.
I've heard the rumors in college about how new professors often sleep and work on the school campus; and recently about google employees that were saving money by living in their car and doing everything possible on the google campus such as eating, sleeping, showering, doing laundry, etc. I hadn't realize that I could have done it at my current workplace as well! The only amenity I don't have access to is laundry service. However, I was educated that it could easily be done if I went to a laundry-mat. My living situation could be managed by work, if I chose to! I'm definitely not recommending this to my readers, but if times are really tough and you're fortunate to be working at a Fortune 500 where a company provides meals and showers, it is possible to lower your living costs by not renting out a place and living in your car. Ideally, it would make sense if you could live in a place like this https://sportsmobile.com/mercedes-benz-4x4-sprinter/ that would be less conspicuous and blend in the parking lot, but I'm sure a minivan could be converted something livable. This unorthodox living situation would definitely change your social life, reputation, and mental sanity, but you could definitely put that money saved towards a future down payment, retirement fund, or financial related goals important to you! |
