Recently, I was very fortunate to attend a sporting event at Staples Center. The particular sport attended was for the national basketball association, but I am almost certain that these food and drink prices were standard for any hockey, music, or other kind of entertainment.
A bottle of water was $5, a can of beer was $12.50, and a snack of Edamame was $8.50. How does Staples Center get away with charging these prices? Simple. Supply and Demand. As soon as one arrives, no outside food or drink is allowed; Any liquid or snack must be immediately thrown in the waste bins at the entrance under the watchful eye of security. My only advice would be to purchase food and drink prior to these events and to consume them before entering the venue. Otherwise one is at the mercy of the venue and the prices that they charge. Hopefully, with the prices that Staples Center charge for snacks and drinks, at least a couple of pennies of each transaction goes to the Laker organization. Potentially, the Laker organization could use these newfound riches to acquire an additional star player. It would be great to have another championship team, as lebron james cannot win it alone. My only other wish, was the hope that the Laker organization would garner additional sponsors and donors. Only one guy was allowed a half court and 3pt shot at a chance to win some dollars. One kid was allowed to shoot from multiple areas of the court to accumulate points and to have a shot to win some chedda. It would have been wonderful if more members of the audience were allowed a half court shot to win some cash, as nba players and the laker management team are paid handsomely compared to the average man. Otherwise, the rich get richer... Cheers!
