Because I haven't done lawn care for the past 3 months, I recently spent a couple of hours pulling out weeds in the backyard while listening to rap music. It was exhausting but therapeutic. I also developed a deep appreciation for gardeners and lawn care specialists across the world for the extremely hard work that they do. While gardening or de-weeding, you don't have to worry about your day to day life things when you're busy pulling one weed after another. There's also a meditative aspect because of the zen simplicity it does to your mind to just focus on one thing and ponder about your life. I felt completely different de-weeding compared to the screen time that takes part of our everyday lives. Not only is it great exercise, and helps you clean your yard, but it gave me a deep appreciation of what weekly maintenance can do in one's life. If you let go for a couple of months, whether it's your health, finances, or your yard in this example... it takes a lot more work to get back on track. On the other hand, if you had done weekly maintenance, it helps you a lot more to stay on track on your budget, being in shape, or having a clean looking yard.
The other thing that I wanted to mention was that reading company 10Ks is free practical knowledge about that company's industry, and keeps your mind fresh if you like learning. I used to throw them away when I got them in the mail, but I now realize that they can be a real interesting read. Stay safe in this pandemic!

With coronavirus in full effect with no slowdown in Cali, it's been a huge adjustment. Because of 6 feet social distancing rules and mask wearing you pretty much have to distance yourself unless you want to risk being put on a ventilator.
So not only is it mandatory to do things yourself, but that means no more eating out, getting haircuts, partying, asking for home help, etc. Which means you got to do everything yourself. These days, I've been cleaning, fixing, hair cutting, cooking, and doing everything I possibly can to pass the time and save some pennies. But one thing I've noticed while looking for home repair tips is that the internet and web has gotten worse because of search engine optimization. No longer are the top links helpful or what you're actually looking for. It's all these sites who just game the system or are trying to sell stuff. It's pretty sad because it reminds me of yahoo back in the day and when google was really good at finding what you need. Google has gone to s***. You can definitely re-finance all your fixed costs such as mortgages, car loans, private student loans, personal loans, HELOCs, etc. Since the federal reserve cut rates to 0, rates have gone down, but so much, since everybody is looking for reduced financing. Banks have become picky and only loan out at rates where they profit as well. Other things to do would be stay at home with puzzles, board games, and virtual Zoom parties. Saving money on alcohol with just drinking at home with your friends instead of paying a possible cover charge and expensive drinks. Buying legos and building them at home or playing videogames with your friends should save on your entertainment budget as well. Doing your own yard work would save money and get you some exercise as well. With this recession spreading to all other industries, it's best to save as much as possible cause you don't know how long your job can last. With spending down except for the basic necessities, it just makes financial sense to spend less and save for a rainy day. Carnival cruise line stock has been hammered lately. With the 2nd Princess ship, The Grand Princess, just having docked in the Port of Oakland in the US and reports of the corona-virus infecting passengers has made these shares drop significantly. Just a couple months ago this stock was trading around 50 and it hit a low of 20.20 today. Carnival owns many brands such as Princess, Holland America, Seabourn, Cunard, Costa Cruises, Aida, and a couple of others.
I've put a limit buy order for 20, and I'm hopeful that it'll hit. Not only is it really cheap, with the potential to get cheaper, but you can also get a slight benefit from being a shareholder. If you hold a minimum of 100 shares, you can get on-board credit per stateroom that varies on the length of the cruise. 6 days or less- on-board credit of $50 7-13 days- on-board credit of $100 14 days or longer- on-board credit of $250 Basically, if you think you'll go on X amount of Carnival Cruises in your lifetime, it could be worth it to pick up some stock at this distressed price at the moment due to the corona-virus and possible recession. Let's say you go on ten, six day cruises before the end of your life. That's a potential $500 savings which is 25% of your investment. With this also being a dividend stock, there's some money given so long as the company doesn't cut the dividend after this disastrous 2020. Thus, buying Carnival or other cruise stocks at this steep discount, could be worthwhile along its shareholder perks. |
